Faculty Leadership

Meet the leadership of The Leadership Lab.

Renee Harmon, PhD
Assistant Professor, Co-Founder of The Leadership Lab

Dr. Renee Harmon is an assistant professor in educational leadership. Renee received her Ph.D. in Education & Human Resource Studies from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO, her M.A. in Communication from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, and her B.A. in Journalism from Western Illinois University. Renee’s work focuses on how sustainability education is addressed and taught in higher education, college student sustainability literacy, and community education; with specific interest in educating communities on refugee resettlement and cultural knowledge sharing. She is a member of the professional academic organizations: AASHE, NASPA, NAME, and AERA.

In her spare time, Renee can be found exploring U.S. National Parks and open spaces with her golden retriever, Maggie Moo; dangerously rollerblading down paved sidewalks; or spending long afternoons investigating the wonders found at local antique shops. Renee also enjoys a good cup of coffee (join us for The Lab’s Virtual Coffee Chats!), everything Midwest, and watching movies at local art theaters. In 2016 Renee completed her goal of hiking the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim to Rim with three friends and in 2019 Renee successfully completed her next goal of hiking the same hike solo – in 120 degree Arizona heat! Currently Renee is spending a “Year of Travel” visiting various locations around the U.S.A., learning about the cultures of the people, the history of the places, and the wonders of this amazing planet!

You can follow Renee’s travel blog to learn about her Year Of Travel: Exploring America.
